SEO Is Hard

I really enjoy building things, building the blog for Afterify while also trying to use it has been a challenge. An example is that I had already wrote this blog post and then I broke something and lost it. So here is another go at writing this out.

With that out of the way, let me retype what I have been feeling for the last 6 months of working to improve SEO on Afterify and how the evolution over the last many years has changed what I thought I knew.

5 years ago I had a pretty consistent hand on working with SEO with a project I was apart of. In that time, I felt that I gained a good grasp on the fundamentals as well as I could see progress being made with search engine rankings. So fast-forward to today and as I work to apply some of those same experiences to Afterify's home page, I am now finding that I may not be as versed as I thought I once was.

As I have been attempting to brush up on how SEO works today I also ran across some frustrating conclusions. Searching for help guides and tips becomes a copy/paste mess of paid search results and blog posts. Literally every blog post lists the same few tips! So I go through all of them and make sure that these tips are done, but this doesn't change how I think it might be harder for a new company or site to break into the SEO rankings now.

Truth is, marketing is extremely important here and adding blog posts and tinkering with things on the site seems to be the answer. I will keep learning and working to understand it more and probably share some of the things I learn here too.
